On September 28, 2006, the St. George River Council and the Coastal Mountains Council of the MidCoast Board of Realtors sponsored a benefit auction for Midcoast Habitat for Humanity. The funds raised by the combined "Realtors Giving Back" committees of each council were matched dollar for dollar by the Maine Association of Realtors Foundation up to $8,000. The auction and matching funds raised and donated $30,000 to Midcoast Habitat—an astonishing sum of money that will contribute significantly to house 19, scheduled for construction in the fall of 2007. With this substantial and generous donation, the realtors become the major and primary sponsor of the new home and will participate with Midcoast Habitat in groundbreaking and other events related to the project.
